The goal of SpeechCoach Company's Accent Reduction training is to reduce -- not eliminate -- your non-native or regional American accent. Unless your profession requires you to speak with a standard American accent, during the training, we'll just focus on those aspects of your accent that create the greatest difficulty for people listening to you.

Our assessment of your voice -- conducted at our first meeting - will help us create a plan of action to address your vocal and accent reduction needs.

Accent reduction training is most effective when conducted in short meetings over a period of time. When appropriate, you'll receive audiotapes or CDs to practice vocal exercises between our meetings. Let us show you how to:

●   Discriminate between standard American sounds and the sound substitutions you are making

●   Use vowels, consonants, and forms of stress that don't occur in your native language or in your region of the U.S.

●   Speak standard American speech by sustaining vowels and consonants for the appropriate length of time.

●   Use your tongue and lips for precise articulation

●   Speak smoothly without hesitation or choppiness

●   Breathe properly for power and control

●   Reduce filler words such as "uhm" or "like"

●   Speak at an appropriate speed and volume

●   Use emphasis and pauses effectively

●   Eliminate unpleasant qualities - monotone, nasal, high pitched

●   Speak with a pleasant vocal quality that is free of tension
